Iliacus
Hips & glutes
Deep muscle — it lies under other muscles. X-ray makes the muscles over it see-through.
- Origin
- Iliac fossa and iliac crest
- Insertion
- Lesser trochanter of the femur (with the psoas major)
- Action
- Flexes the hip
- Nerve supply
- Femoral nerve (L2–L3)
The fan-shaped part of the iliopsoas lining the inside of the pelvic bowl. Unlike the psoas major it does not attach to the spine, so it acts only at the hip.
