Adductor magnus
Thighs
Deep muscle — it lies under other muscles. X-ray makes the muscles over it see-through.
- Origin
- Inferior ramus of the pubis, ramus of the ischium and ischial tuberosity
- Insertion
- Linea aspera and the adductor tubercle of the femur
- Action
- Adducts the hip; its rear fibres also extend it
- Nerve supply
- Obturator nerve (L2–L4) and tibial division of the sciatic nerve (L4)
The largest adductor. Its rear part, which runs from the sit bone to the inner knee like a hamstring, is a strong hip extensor in deep squats.
