Short head of biceps femoris
Thighs
Deep muscle — it lies under other muscles. X-ray makes the muscles over it see-through.
- Origin
- Lateral lip of the linea aspera of the femur
- Insertion
- Head of the fibula
- Action
- Flexes the knee and laterally rotates the leg
- Nerve supply
- Common fibular division of the sciatic nerve (L5–S2)
Unlike the other hamstrings, it starts on the femur, not the pelvis, so it does not cross the hip. It only bends the knee, as in leg curls.
