Deep muscle — it lies under other muscles. X-ray makes the muscles over it see-through.

- Insertion
- Greater trochanter, via the obturator internus tendon
- Action
- Laterally rotates the hip and stabilises the joint
- Nerve supply
- Nerve to obturator internus (L5–S2)
A small muscle running along the upper edge of the obturator internus tendon. It blends with that tendon and shares its action.
