Extensor hallucis longus

Lower legs

Deep muscle — it lies under other muscles. X-ray makes the muscles over it see-through.

Origin
Middle of the front of the fibula and the interosseous membrane
Insertion
Base of the distal phalanx of the big toe
Action
Extends the big toe; assists dorsiflexion
Nerve supply
Deep fibular nerve (L5–S1)

A thin muscle on the front of the lower leg, between the tibialis anterior and the extensor digitorum longus. Its tendon is easy to see on top of the foot when you lift the big toe.
