Omohyoid
Neck
Deep muscle — it lies under other muscles. X-ray makes the muscles over it see-through.
- Origin
- Upper border of the scapula, near the scapular notch
- Insertion
- Lower border of the body of the hyoid bone
- Action
- Lowers the hyoid bone
- Nerve supply
- Ansa cervicalis (C1–C3)
A long, thin muscle with two bellies joined by a tendon at the side of the neck. Unusually for a neck muscle it starts on the shoulder blade; it pulls the hyoid down after swallowing.
