Sternohyoid
Neck
Deep muscle — it lies under other muscles. X-ray makes the muscles over it see-through.
- Origin
- Back of the manubrium of the sternum and the inner end of the clavicle
- Insertion
- Lower border of the body of the hyoid bone
- Action
- Lowers the hyoid bone
- Nerve supply
- Ansa cervicalis (C1–C3)
A thin strap muscle on the front of the neck, beside the midline. It pulls the hyoid down after swallowing and during speech.
